Did We Know, 280 Died?
It’s senseless and mostly preventable. Recent reports document 280 US children died due to Influenza during the 2024-2025 influenza season. The tracking of childhood flu deaths began in 2004. The all-time high was 288 deaths during the 2009–10 Swine Flu pandemic. This recent 2024–25 season saw the second-highest number of pediatric influenza related deaths recorded, surpassing the 210 deaths reported in 2023–24. Notably, only one child died during the 2020–21 season due to COVID-19 prevention efforts sharply limiting the spread of the flu.
